1 person killed in fiery semi crash on I-65 northbound
INDIANAPOLIS – The northbound lanes on Interstate 65 near downtown Indianapolis are shut down due to a semi-tractor trailer fire that caused one death and sent another person to the hospital.
According to Indiana State Police, around 12:05 a.m. Friday, a passenger car stopped in the roadway and called 911 for help. A second car then crashed into the initial car, and the second car was struck by a semi.
Heavy smoke and flames could be seen from the scene of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the semi was pronounced dead, and another driver was taken to a nearby hospital. The third driver was not taken to the hospital.
The crash is currently under investigation.
According to a post on social media from the Indiana State Police, officials asked drivers to avoid the area. The interstate is expected to be closed for a few hours.
