PLAINFIELD, Ind. — An Indianapolis man has been arrested by Hendricks County authorities, accused of selling fentanyl to a person who then fatally overdosed in Plainfield.
Paul A. Beaty, Jr., 46, faces one charge of dealing resulting in death after being arrested Tuesday in Indianapolis. The charge stems from a deadly overdose last month in Plainfield.
The Hendricks County Drug Task Force originally was called on Sept. 12 to a Plainfield death investigation where a person had overdosed. Local coroners later determined the cause of death to be fentanyl intoxication.
During the investigation into the overdose, detectives identified Beaty, Jr. as a suspect. He now faces one count of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death — a Level 1 Felony that was added as an Indiana statute in 2018.
“[The charge] provides stern accountability to illicit drug dealers for their role in overdose deaths in the State of Indiana,” Sheriff Jack Sadler said. “The Drug Task Force is committed to investigating these tragic cases and when probable cause exists, prosecutions will be made.”
Online jail records show that Beaty is now being held in the Hendricks County Jail on pretrial detention without bond. Online court records show an initial hearing in Beaty’s case was scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Friday in Hendricks Superior Court 5.
