IMPD: 1 dead, 1 critical after shooting on west side

INDIANAPOLIS — One man is dead and another is critically injured after a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis Friday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 8:58 p.m. to the 800 block of Clover Leaf Terrace after receiving reports that a person had been shot. IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer said officers arrived on the scene and located a vehicle that had multiple bullet holes in it.

IMPD confirmed officers found an adult male inside the damaged vehicle who was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Another adult male was also found on the scene to be suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in “extremely” critical condition.

Weilhammer said preliminary information indicates some type of disturbance occurred in the area before shots were fired.

Detectives recovered a handgun and will likely remain on the scene for several more hours as they canvass for additional evidence.

It marks the second shooting police responded to in what is shaping up to be a violent Friday night across the Circle City. Police were called around 4:48 p.m. to investigate a shooting on Treyburn Green Drive that also left one person dead.

This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
