IMPD: Girl dead after stabbing on near east side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A child is dead after a stabbing Monday morning on the near east side of Indianapolis, according to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

According to a news release, officers with IMPD’s east district responded to a report of a person stabbed in the 400 block of N Randolph Street at around 9:14 a.m. on Monday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located a girl who had reportedly been stabbed. She was reportedly found outside in the 400 block of N Randolph Street. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement from Indianapolis Public Schools, the district placed Arsenal Technical High School, Theodore Potter School 74 and H.L. Marshman Middle School campuses on lockdown because of the fatal stabbing.

“All students and staff are safe in the buildings, and learning is continuing as normal within classrooms,” the district said in the statement. “Parents of these schools have been notified. IMPD is investigating the incident. There are no further details available at this time. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority at IPS.”
