Southwest to resume nonstop flights from Indy to Chicago’s Midway after hiatus

INDIANAPOLIS – In August, Southwest Airlines will resume nonstop flights from Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) after a years-long break.

The flight will run twice daily, year-round, beginning on Aug. 5, 2025. The route had been on hiatus for five years.

“This will be our 52nd nonstop destination operating out of IND,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA). “And it’s another win for our community partners who come alongside us to improve nonstop access to key business and leisure destinations.”

Other airlines have flights to Chicago O’Hare (ORD), but Southwest will provide the only flight out of Indy to Midway, IAA officials said.

“Chicago Midway gives Hoosiers more access to Southwest’s destinations across the United States and beyond enabling easier travel for both business and leisure needs,” said Maggie Cunningham, IAA director of air service and airport experience.

It’s not the only new nonstop flight planned for 2025.

On March 6, Southwest will offer a daily nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Nashville (BNA). The new route has been in the works for more than seven years, according to IAA officials.
