Person critically injured in single-vehicle crash in Tippecanoe County
TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — A person was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash in Tippecanoe County Friday night.
Deputies with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:31 p.m. to the area of Old State Road 25 N. and Debbie Drive after receiving reports of a personal injury accident. TCSO said deputies arrived and located a 2004 Chevrolet Impala that had struck a tree.
The driver was unresponsive and was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital for treatment of “critical” injuries, according to TCSO.
TCSO said preliminary information indicated the vehicle had been traveling northbound on Old State Road 25 when it veered off the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to exit the left side of the road and collide with a nearby tree just south of Debbie Drive.
It remains unclear what initially caused the driver to veer off the roadway before the accident.
The Buck Creek Fire Department and Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene. TCSO confirmed that toxicology screenings will be completed at a later date as part of their investigation.
