Woman caught with near 100 fake ID cards from 4 states

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — An Indianapolis woman is alleged to have created dozens of fake identification cards to purchase a variety of things from housing to luxury goods, and even tractors.

On Dec. 23, 2023, the Indiana State Police received a report of a crime from the Fishers Police Department and launched an investigation. The victim reported that there were lines of credit opened up in her name at a John Deere dealership in Atlanta (IN).

The suspect, Diara Jernigan, reportedly tried to purchase a John Deere X390 Tractor for $7,274.93, but having been a victim to similar scams, the store insisted that she come in to make the purchase due to the inconsistencies with Jernigan’s ability to submit proper ID, pin numbers, and addresses. Jernigan then allegedly called other John Deere locations, but she was denied.

Upon further investigation, 26-year-old Jernigan was charged with fraud, identity theft, and forgery.

During a search of Jerigan’s home, officers reportedly found approximately 100 fraud ID cards from Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Georgia. Every identification card had her photo with a different name, according to court documents.

This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
