Wintry mix late afternoon; slick to icy overnight
It’s cloudy and mainly dry to start your Wednesday morning, as temperatures hold in the lower 30s/upper 20s. A flurry or two will be around but overall a solid, quiet start.

By lunch, dry weather still holding for most before changes get underway with a wintry mix inbound. After 2 p.m., chances go up for cold rain, sleet and wet snow! The angle of the storm puts a mix of rain and sleet mix for downtown, cold rain south of I-70 and a wintry mix of sleet and snow for our northern counties.

Regardless, the evening rush hour will be slow as it falls and temperatures hover near freezing. I think the worst of this will really be confined just north of downtown with heavier sleet potential and snow. Our northern counties could see up to 4″ in spots, while just cold rain is expected for our southern counties.

Later tonight, the mixed precipitation will taper off to snow showers and/or flurries, as temperatures fall into the middle 20s. This will result in roads turning icy and slick through Thursday morning’s rush hour (black ice). Winds will increase late tonight from the west at 10-20 mph.

Thursday and Friday (Valentine’s Day) will be mainly dry and brisk at times, to round out the workweek!
This weekend brings round No. 3, mainly rain on Saturday with a changeover to snow late Saturday and on through Sunday. An early call has snow likely accumulating on Sunday with gusty winds and slick roads…more to come on this later in the week!
