19-year-old dead after single-vehicle crash in Randolph County
RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. — A 19-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Randolph County Thursday night.
Deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office were called around 6:15 p.m. to the area of State Road 227 near the intersection with U.S. 36.
RCSO said preliminary information indicates a black 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling northbound on State Road 227.
The driver of the pickup truck reportedly failed to yield to a stop sign in the area before losing control of the vehicle, RCSO said. The vehicle crossed over onto US 36, veered off the west side of the roadway and rolled over several times before striking a utility pole.
The driver was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of “serious” injuries. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene, according to RCSO.
The deceased individual has been identified as 19-year-old Devon Lumpkin of Union City, Ohio.
The Lynn Fire Department, Winchester Fire Department, Union City Fire Department, Randolph County EMS and the Randolph County Coroner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
