Man arrested for pointing gun, operating vehicle while intoxicated in Frankfort
FRANKFORT, Ind. — The Frankfort Police Department arrested a man on OWI and gun charges on Tuesday.
According to an FPD Facebook post, an officer spoke with a person who claimed a man had pointed a gun at him around 4:21 p.m. Upon further investigation, police identified the man who pointed the gun at the victim as 35-year-old Steven D. Smith.
FPD officers later located Smith and conducted a traffic stop with him. During the stop, Smith was arrested.
FPD described Smith’s decision to point a gun at the person as an act of road rage. Indiana’s public court reporting system indicates Smith now faces the following charges:
- Intimidation where the defendant draws or uses a deadly weapon — Level 5 Felony
- Pointing a firearm at another — Level 6 Felony
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person — Class A Misdemeanor
- Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration between .08 and .15
Intimidation where the defendant draws or uses a deadly weapon is the stiffest of the charges Smith faces. The maximum penalty for such a crime in Indiana is a six-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
Smith appeared in court for an initial hearing on Wednesday. No additional information on his case is currently available via Indiana’s public court records.
