MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State University Football is making a leadership change, the university announced on Saturday.
According to a press release, Mike Neu, the head coach of Ball State University Football and a BSU alumnus, is ending his nine-year term. BSU said Offensive Line Coach Colin Johnson, another alumnus, will take his place as an interim head coach.
Johnson will coach for the remaining two BSU games of the season. Ball State added that a national search for a permanent head football coach will begin immediately.
“Coach Neu has poured his heart into the Ball State football program,” Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell said. “I commend him for his professionalism and the positive team culture he has constructed. His efforts have greatly impacted the lives of hundreds of young men. He has represented the Ball State brand with integrity and class, and I wish him well in future pursuits.”
Per Ball State, Neu held a career record of 40-63. In total, he took part in 158 games with the university: 103 as a head coach, 11 as a graduate assistant and 44 as a quarterback.
Neu also quarterbacked for the Cardinals’ MAC championship and Las Vegas Bowl team in 1993, served as quarterback coach for the New Orleans Saints, earned a 2020 MAC title in 2020, won an Arizona Bowl victory and was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004, the university wrote.
