Broad Ripple woman stabbed girlfriend twice in neck, witnesses say
INDIANAPOLIS — Police officers claim that a stabbing suspect seemed almost giddy when she asked officers if her girlfriend, whom she’d allegedly stabbed in the neck, had died from her wounds.
Taniqwa Heard, 34, was arrested on Saturday as she exited a porta-potty. Inside the portable bathroom, police found a bloody tank top and toilet paper soaked in blood.
“What’s going on?” Heard reportedly asked as she was cuffed. “Did she die?”
Officers noted that the suspect “had an excited utterance” as she asked that question.
According to court documents, a bloody steak knife was found tucked into Heard’s pant leg.
Previous reports detail about how a stabbing victim was rushed to a hospital after being stabbed inside a Broad Ripple residence around midnight on Saturday. The victim was an adult female who was reportedly stabbed twice in the neck and in the hand, according to court documents.
Numerous witnesses named Heard as the assailant in the stabbing. Heard had reportedly been dating the victim for the last two months.
Police tried to speak to the victim at the hospital, but she was unable to speak due to her injury. Police said the victim was able to nod, however, when asked if Heard was the person who stabbed her.
Heard reportedly admitted to stabbing her girlfriend, according to investigators, but claimed self-defense. Police asked why Heard fled the scene and hid in a porta-potty if the stabbing was self-defense. Officers said Heard became “very belligerent” at that point and refused to answer any further questions.
Heard is being held on a preliminary charge of attempted murder.
Court records reveal that heard also faces felony charges of criminal confinement and intimidation in a separate Marion County case. Heard bonded out of jail in January on those charges.
