Critically wounded shooting victim found lying on ground at southwest Indianapolis gas station

INDIANAPOLIS — Police found a shooting victim lying on the ground at a gas station on the southwest side of Indianapolis Sunday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Marathon gas station located at 2810 Kentucky Ave. at approximately 7:52 p.m. An IMPD spokesperson told FOX59 and CBS4 a gas station employee initially called police to the scene.

The employee told dispatchers they had found a person with an apparent gunshot wound lying on the ground outside the gas station. When police made it to the scene, they confirmed an adult male shooting victim was lying on the ground at the Marathon.

IMPD indicated the victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital. Police reported that the victim is currently in critical condition.

As of 9:48 p.m., IMPD had not identified any witnesses or suspects that may have seen or been involved in the shooting.

IMPD Captain Rob Rider said detectives are still canvassing the area for evidence and searching for any security cameras that may have captured the shooting.

“There were no witnesses, nobody on scene that saw anything,” Rider said. “So, as of right now, there’s no threat to the public either. But detectives are just trying to probably pull some video and see if anybody saw or heard anything and find out what happened.”

Police have not yet confirmed if the shooting happened at the gas station or if the victim collapsed at the gas station after being shot elsewhere.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
