Gov. Holcomb reflects on time in office, people of northeast Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE) — Outgoing Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb reflected on his time in office Tuesday with WANE 15.

The two-term incumbent is term-limited and cannot run again, after winning office in 2016 and reelection in 2020.

Holcomb was criticized by a large portion of Republicans to his right for his handling of some social issues and the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics thought he went too far in limiting freedoms, but he defended the moves as essential to public health and safety in the face of an unknown threat.

Despite the pushback, he won a second term by a wider margin than the first.

Holcomb has spent much of his time in office spreading the word of what he sees as Indiana’s benefits to business leaders across the globe. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has posted record numbers in new investment, but has also been criticized for a lack of transparency, especially in its plan to supply water to a turn-key development site.

Holcomb has not announced his career plans after his term expires in January.

U.S. Sen. Mike Braun (R) will be sworn in as Indiana’s next governor on Jan. 13, 2025.
