INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested an 18-year-old in relation to a fatal shooting on Tuesday on the northwest side of Indianapolis, according to a post on IMPD’s social media.
IMPD homicide detectives with the department, along with the department’s violent crimes unit, arrested 18-year-old Jakari Bibbs in relation to the shooting death of 16-year-old Nathaniel Labissiere.
According to previous reports, IMPD responded to the 4400 block of Braemar Drive at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday where they located Labissiere with a gunshot wound. Labissiere was pronounced dead at the scene and the Marion County Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death as a homicide.
At the scene, officials with IMPD said that homicide detectives spoke with multiple cooperative witnesses, as well as collected evidence at the scene. The statements, as well as the evidence, led detectives to Bibbs as a potential suspect.
On Tuesday, detectives located Bibbs and obtained a search warrant. The post read that during the search, a firearm and additional evidence were found. Bibbs was interviewed in relation to the incident, but was released pending further investigation.
As detectives continued their investigation, they obtained enough evidence to arrest Bibbs in relation to the shooting. The department’s violent crimes unit located Bibbs in the 5000 block of West 71st Street and arrested him on preliminary charges of reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony, and pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony.
The post read that the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
