IMPD: Man with gunshot wound found dead in alley on near east side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Police found a mean dead in an alley on the near east side of Indianapolis Sunday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the area of Oxford Street and Brookside Avenue around 10:38 p.m. on a report of a person down. When police arrived at the scene, they found an adult male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound in a nearby alley.

Medics arrived soon after IMPD officers made it to the scene. Police confirmed the man was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m.

Thus far in their investigation, police have not identified any suspects, persons of interest or witnesses. Police reported that the person who called them did not see what happened to the victim. The caller told officers they reached out to first responders after finding the man lying in the alley.

IMPD believes the shooting is an isolated incident that does not pose an ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
