Indiana Task Force 1 relocating from Florida to Georgia
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Task Force 1 is relocating from Florida to Georgia.
The 80-person team was activated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) last Tuesday. Indiana Task Force 1 was sent to Florida the same day it was activated.
The team arrived in Florida before the state was hit by Hurricane Helene. In the days since Helene made landfall, Indiana Task Force 1 has been providing support to area residents and governments.
In a series of tweets, Indiana Task Force 1 reported that it was initially sent to the panhandle of Florida. One of its first assignments was in Suwanee County, Florida.
Indiana Task Force 1 also provided its assistance in Lafayette County, Florida, and Treasure Island, which is located off the coast of St. Petersburg.
In its most recent post on X, the team indicated it had completed all of its assigned missions in Florida. As a result, the team was relocated from The Sunshine State to northern Georgia.
According to the Associated Press, Hurricane Helene heavily impacted states throughout the southeastern portion of the U.S., including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
In addition to the widespread flooding and damage that has been reported, the AP has indicated that Hurricane Helene’s death toll currently sits at 84.
