Indianapolis Wrestlemania

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis has proven itself as a tremendous host for everything from the NCAA Final Four to the Super Bowl and the current U.S. swim trials.

Its latest major event may be coming off the top rope.

WrestleVotes reported Thursday that the Circle City will host the 2025 Royal Rumble, one of WWE’s marquee events, at Lucas Oil Stadium. The report said Indy would also host Wrestlemania and Summerslam events in the future.

Indiana Sports Corp and WWE were “nearing a multi-event deal,” WrestleVotes reported.

When someone asked him if the report was true, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett responded Thursday with a social media post featuring a black-and-white photo of him next to Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

WWE’s Fastlane came to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in October 2023. During that show, former Colts punter, podcast host and WWE commentator Pat McAfee advocated for wrestling’s biggest event in Indianapolis.

“There was no chance in hell I was gonna miss this show on this night in this glorious city,” McAfee told the crowd during his appearance on Fastlane.

“I think Indianapolis, Indiana, has deserved a Wrestlemania,” he said to raucous applause. “If you think Indianapolis should host a Wrestlemania, give me a ‘hell yeah.”

The Circle City previously hosted Wrestlemania VIII in 1992 at the Hoosier Dome. More than 62,000 fans attended the premier WWE (then known as the WWF) event. Summerslam came to Indy in 2008.
