ISP investigating deadly OIS in Anderson
ANDERSON, Ind. – Indiana State Police is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday night in Anderson.
According to Indiana State Police, just after 9 p.m., deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Fairview Street in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant.
When officers arrived, they encountered a male subject in the driver’s seat of a white Chevrolet Impala parked in the driveway. Police say officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by giving multiple verbal commands for the male subject to show his hands and exit the vehicle. The man refused to comply with the officer’s commands, according to police.
During the encounter, one officer shot the male subject with his department-issue weapon, police say.
Officers at the scene immediately began securing the scene and rendering life-saving aid to the man. However, the man was pronounced deceased on scene. The Madison County Coroner’s Office identified the man was 44-year-old Lataurus Harrison of Indianapolis.
Police say no officers sustained any injuries during the encounter.
At the request of the Madison County Sheriff, Indiana State Police Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. Police were able to recover a firearm in the front passenger seat of the vehicle the man was sitting in.
No other information was released. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.
