ISP investigating interstate shooting in Jasper County that left semi-driver seriously injured
JASPER COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating after a semi-driver was shot and injured during an incident in the southbound lanes of I-65 in northwestern Indiana Thursday afternoon.
ISP troopers were dispatched around 4:45 p.m. to the 224-mile marker on I-65 SB after dispatch received reports that a person was possibly shot on the interstate near the Roselawn/Demotte exit on State Road 10.
The troops located the driver of a semi-truck who was suffering from a “life-threatening” gunshot wound, ISP said. First aid was quickly provided to the injured driver as paramedics arrived at the scene.
The victim was subsequently transported via helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital where they received emergency medical care. ISP could not confirm the victim’s current condition.
Traffic was temporarily halted in both directions to allow the transport helicopter enough space to retrieve the victim. All lanes reopened later Thursday evening around 8 p.m.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact The Lowell District Post Commander at 219-696-6242. The interstate shooting remains under investigation.
