Lawrence Police Department investigating officer involved shooting

Lawrence, IN – Lawrence Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting early Friday morning.

According to Lawrence Police Department, around 12:15 a.m. two officers made a traffic stop in the 7200 block of East 52nd street. During the traffic stop the driver of the vehicle reached for a rifle that was on the passenger seat.

The officers fired their weapons at the suspect, and the suspect was able to flea from the scene.

Officers found the suspect vehicle unoccupied in a nearby apartment complex with blood around the vehicle.

A short time later a report was made of a walk-in person shot at Community North Hospital. Officers were able to determined that this was the same individual that was in the car from the traffic stop.

The suspect was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
