Man found shot on northeast side under ‘unusual’ circumstances
INDIANAPOLIS – Police found a man shot on the northeast side early Monday morning but were uncertain exactly when and where the actual shooting took place.
Around 3:40 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan police were called to the 6000 block of East 40th Street for a person shot. Officers encountered a man suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
The man was taken to an area hospital. Police didn’t disclose the extent of his injuries.
According to Capt. Don Weilhammer with IMPD, the man told responding officers someone fired shots at him at Arlington Green Apartments on East 21st Street around 3 a.m.
Police, however, couldn’t locate a crime scene in that area and said the most recent run for a shots fired call in the vicinity came in around midnight.
“It is a little unusual that this actually occurred around three o’clock in the morning, but the adult male came to this address [on East 40th Street] and waited 30 to 40 minutes before calling in, stating that he had been shot,” Weilhammer said.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS. The shooting remains under investigation.
