Man sentenced to 30 years for fatal 2023 shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man faces three decades behind bars for a deadly shooting that took place in June of 2023.

According to online court records, 46-year-old Keith Phillips pleaded guilty on Friday to voluntary manslaughter, a Level 2 Felony. He was originally sentenced to 20 years behind bars but received an additional 10 years for a Felony Firearm Enhancement.

Phillips was also given 813 total days of jail credit, or roughly two years and three months.

This sentence stems from the shooting death of Wayne Nalley, which took place on June 15, 2023. In the early morning hours, officers from the Indianapolis Metro Police Department were called to a residence on the 2000 block of N. Spencer Ave.

There, police said they found then-29-year-old Nalley shot, who then died at the scene.

“Community assistance” led police to identify Phillips as the suspect in Nalley’s death, IMPD said.

Originally, Phillips also had two counts of murder against him. As part of his plea agreement, those two charges were dropped.
