Muncie court convicts Tenn. man of child molesting
MUNCIE, Ind. — After a five-hour deliberation, a Delaware County jury convicted a 43-year-old man of child molesting on Thursday.
According to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, Jamarris Lewis of Tennessee was convicted on three counts of child molesting—two being Level 1 felonies and one being a Level 4 felony.
In accordance with Indiana law, a Level 1 felony is punishable with a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Level 4 felonies can face the same maximum fine, and up to a 12-year prison sentence.
“Abuse of children, no matter what form it may take, will not be tolerated in Delaware County,” said Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Hoffman.
He then expressed his support of fellow prosecutors and the Muncie Police Department for their hard work and dedication to the case.
Lewis’ sentencing date is set for Sept. 16.
