Person shot, killed on Indy’s northwest side
INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation has been launched after a person was shot and killed on the northwest side of Indianapolis Friday night.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 9:40 p.m. to the 6200 block of N. Georgetown Road in response to reports of a personal injury crash occurring in the area.
IMPD said officers arrived and found an individual suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
IMPD said preliminary information indicates that the victim had met the suspect at a Marathon Gas Station located at 62nd Street and Georgetown Road. The suspect approached as the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of their vehicle, according to IMPD. A short time later, detectives believe shots were fired into the vehicle.
IMPD said the suspect returned to their vehicle and fled from the scene. While they were driving away, IMPD said the suspect got into a crash with an uninvolved vehicle. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision. As of this article’s publication, IMPD has not confirmed if anyone has been taken into custody.
Anyone with information should call IMPD at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
