Purdue men’s basketball advances to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16
INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue men’s basketball is off to the Sweet 16 after a resounding 106-67 win over Utah State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday.
The Boilermakers used a 16-0 run in the first half to take control of the game. Purdue led by 16 at halftime and was never seriously threatened in the second half, cruising to the next round.
Center Zach Edey led the way with for the Boilermakers 23 points and 14 rebounds, while Trey Kaufmann-Renn added 18 points and Fletcher Loyer contributed 15.
The Boilers made 11 3-pointers en route to scoring 106 points — the most Purdue has ever scored in an NCAA Tournament game.
Sunday’s victory is the Boilers’ 31st of the year, breaking the school record for most wins in a season.
The trip to the Sweet 16 is Purdue’s fifth in its last seven tournament appearances and 14th overall in program history.
The Boilermakers will take on fifth-seeded Gonzaga on Friday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
