Richmond PD makes first arrest on drug dealing resulting in death warrant
RICHMOND, Ind. — For the first time in Wayne County, a person has been arrested on charges of drug dealing resulting in death.
According to a post on the Richmond Police Department’s social media, 57-year-old Shelly Maiden was recently arrested on a warrant for dealing resulting in death, a Level 2 felony.
The post read that officers with the Richmond Police Department was working with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to secure the charge against Maiden. Officials said this follows the “example set by Delaware County in addressing the deadly consequences of drug dealing.”
“This is the first arrest of its kind in Wayne County, and it confirms our dedication to going after those who spread these dangerous drugs in our community,” Richmond Chief Kyle Weatherly said in the post. “These substances are not just ruining lives; they’re taking them, and we will not stand by while that happens.”
Officials said in the post that the department remains “committed” to protecting the community, stressing that the department will continue to “pursue justice for those impacted by the opioid epidemic and other dangerous drugs.”
