Senator-elect Banks named to 4 committees in 119th Congress

WASHINGTON D.C. — The office of Indiana senator-elect U.S. Rep. Jim Banks, R-District 3, Ind. recently announced his appointment to four Senate committees for the upcoming 119th Congress, Banks’ first session as Indiana’s newest senator.

According to a news release from Banks’ office, Banks will be a member of the following Senate committees:

  • Senate Committee on Armed Services
  • Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs
  • Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions
  • Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs

This comes after Banks was elected to Indiana’s open seat in the U.S. Senate in November. U.S. Senator Mike Braun, R-Ind. left the seat and is now Indiana’s governor-elect. Banks will join U.S. Senator Todd Young, R-Ind. in the U.S. Senate in January.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, Banks served on the following committees:

  • House Armed Services Committee
  • Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
  • Committee on Education and the Workforce
  • Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party

“Since my first day in Congress, strengthening our national defense and taking care of our nation’s veterans have been two of my top priorities and I am grateful to continue that work in the United States Senate,” Banks said in a statement. “I look forward to working with President Trump on these important issues and that starts with confirming his cabinet secretaries right away. I’m honored to be a voice for the hundreds of thousands Hoosier veterans and servicemembers and I will always fight for Indiana First.”

According to previous reports, Banks previously outlined his priorities for the upcoming congressional session, including:

  • Fighting for working families
  • Strengthening American industry
  • Refocusing the Pentagon on the Warfighter
  • Restoring traditional values and stopping “wokeness”
  • Putting an end to the border crisis
  • Defending American workers from China
  • Unleashing U.S. building power
  • Dismantling needless bureaucracy

The 119th Congress is expected to begin in early January 2025.
