Shooting on northeast side of Indianapolis leaves man dead

INDIANAPOLIS — A shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis left a man dead Monday night.

According to a media notification from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, law enforcement was dispatched to the 6800 block of Faris Avenue — which is located near Shadeland Avenue — on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a victim with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

During a media briefing, police indicated the victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition. The victim, who was ultimately identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

IMPD reported that they had not identified any suspects as of 10 p.m. Police do not believe the incident presents any active or ongoing threat to the community.

Public police reporting systems indicate officers were initially called to the area around 8:47 p.m.
