The Cavity Factory steps into sweet success with a storefront, hiring, new cookie flavors and a surprising twist

INDIANAPOLIS — The bright pink food truck that has dazzled Central Indiana is turning the corner.

The Cavity Factory will now have a storefront on the near southeast side of Indianapolis. The location will come with new cookie flavors, longer operating hours, wholesale opportunities, and the chance to work for the blossoming company.

“I’m very proud. I don’t even know how to explain the way I feel. It’s just an accomplishment because I did it without help. No investor, no grants, no loans, no nothing,” said owner Destinee Smith. “I feel loved. I feel appreciated. And it’s humbling. It’s just an incredible experience.”

The bakery will be located at 1354 Shelby Street and is set for the grand opening at the beginning of April, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday.

The new store will also bring new menu items. Smith will debut breakfast cookies and cake. The flavors for the breakfast cookies will include items such as maple bacon, oatmeal, pancake, as well as chicken & waffles. Additionally, Smith plans to launch gluten-free and sugar-free cookie options within the first month of opening.

With the expansion of The Cavity Factory, 25-year-old Smith will also be working to hire at least ten part-time individuals who can assist with baking and delivery.

Smith spends much of her nights with her partner preparing hundreds of cookies as a pregnant mother of two young children. “A lot of people didn’t think it was possible, but I’m making it possible. They’re not getting in the way of my dreams. They’re a part of it,” said Smith.

They are indeed a part of big dreams because, within six months of opening the storefront, Smith will be attending dental school.

“So as soon as they buy my cookies, if they have trouble with their teeth, they can come to me,” said Smith.

After being wrought with teeth issues, Smith dreamed of becoming a dentist at 11 years old. Smith has struggled with dozens of cavities throughout her lifetime, and it’s also how she got the name — The Cavity Factory.

If you can’t make it to the eatery, Smith will also wholesale her cookies to businesses in central Indiana, sell her treats online, and deliver them. And don’t worry, you will occasionally experience the bubblegum pink truck around town.

“I am so excited and thankful that I get to experience this,” said Smith in a social post. “I cried after seeing the building empty. It’s so beautiful!”
