Thieves Target San Francisco Guest House for Pediatric Patients – CBS San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco police are investigating a particularly gruesome robbery after thieves broke into a San Francisco nonprofit that treats children being treated for cancer and other serious conditions and their families.
The Family House lost thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment and electronics in the recent robbery, according to people running the nonprofit.

“To see how someone would purposefully do this at a pediatric boarding house is a real blow,” said CEO Alexandra Morgan. “I have no idea what someone is thinking who breaks into a compassionate residential facility for small children with cancer.”
The Family House provides free, temporary housing to families with children being treated for serious illnesses, primarily cancer, at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. At the time of the crime, Morgan said dozens of children were living there.
“Thank goodness this happened on the ground floor and the living floors are above it,” she said. “Somebody made a very conscious decision to do this, regardless of who they hurt or what they were doing.”
The person or persons responsible stole numerous computers and other electronics, which are mainly used by the children and families, Morgan said.
“We are here to do what we can to make the lives of families fighting for the lives of their children easier. For someone who recklessly breaks in and steals the gear our families need as their lifeline home is just heartbreak,” she said. city experiences.”

The Family House is located in Mission Bay, which falls within the Southern District of SFPD.
According to crime data from the SFPD, there were 184 burglaries in the neighborhood between January 1 and April 3 this year. Last year there were 241 burglaries in the same period.
However, SFPD crime data shows that overall property crime is 41.5% higher than last year. This year, 1,276 property crimes have been committed so far, compared to 902 in the same period last year.
Aside from the thousands of dollars in equipment the Family House lost, Morgan said they will have to spend more on improving their security system.
“As a result, we will have to invest in very expensive security equipment and an alarm system. More than what we already have,” she says.
There were no witnesses to the incident and no one was injured, the SFPD said. No arrests have been made at this time and police have not released any descriptions of suspects.
