WLPD closes State St. as Purdue fans celebrate NCAA win
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue men’s basketball team has secured its first NCAA Tournament Championship Game berth since 1969.
The Boilermakers took down the 11th-seeded North Carolina State Wolfpack, 63-50, in the Final Four on Saturday night at State Farm Stadium.
Soon after Purdue finished its first Final Four game since 1980, fans in West Lafayette started to celebrate. In an alert sent just before 9 p.m. Saturday, West Lafayette Police announced that they’d be closing State Street from Chauncey Avenue to Andrew Place.
WLPD encouraged drivers to avoid the area due to “heavy foot traffic.” FOX59 and CBS4 had a crew in West Lafayette Saturday night to check out the celebration.
The Boilermakers will play the winner of Saturday night’s matchup between fourth-seeded Alabama and first-seeded UConn on Monday at 9:20 p.m.
